Two people who take prayer seriously.
Virginia and Tennessee.
Authors, intercessors, and guides.
Bringing living prayer to more individuals and communities.
Amy Lykosh is an author, mentor, and entrepreneur who has spent the last several years on a single mission: to change the narrative on prayer worldwide.
Through Workplace Prayer, Makarios Press, the Make Prayer Beautiful podcast, and a daily prayer email that has gone out every morning since March 2020, she covers businesses in prayer and raises up intercessors to do the same.
Her own prayer journey was anything but smooth. She grew frustrated early โ without mentoring, without anywhere to go for answers. She felt neurotic every time she tried to go deeper. "And no one likes to feel like they're crazy," she says.
That experiment became the Prayer Refresh, the podcast, the daily email, and eventually this: a whole world built around the conviction that prayer isn't what people feared โ it's what they were made for.
She lives outside Charlottesville, Virginia with her husband and five sons. She holds a doctorate in intercession.
For more than forty years, Bob Perry's single request has been: "Lord, teach me to pray."
A self-described fasting intercessor, Bob has been a student of prayer for four decades โ studying not only how people pray around the globe and throughout history, but constantly honing his own practice. He has about 1,200 books on prayer in his library.
After decades in the spheres of church, missions, and entertainment, Bob has turned his prayer focus to the business world โ covering workplaces, teams, and entrepreneurs in prayer week after week. He has led multiple prayer initiatives that have trained and mobilized hundreds of thousands of people.
When Amy first met Bob, she asked him to rate himself 1โ10 on his prayer journey. His answer stopped her in her tracks โ and became one of the founding insights of Make Prayer Beautiful.
He lives in East Nashville, Tennessee with his wife, and enjoys spending time with his four adult children.
In 2019, Amy was trying to build a prayer community from scratch โ and struggling to find someone who took prayer as seriously as she needed. A mutual contact pointed her toward a recording from a group called Heaven in Business. In it, she found Bob Perry, a fasting intercessor out of East Nashville.
Her family hired him. And then Amy had a front-row seat to something she hadn't seen before: a person who genuinely, deeply believed that what he prayed would make a difference.
"On June 4, I texted Bob at 11pm," Amy recalls. "We've had ten answered prayers today! I thought this was the best news ever. I was practically turning cartwheels."
Bob texted back: "Let's go for a dozen."
"That experience showed me there is a difference between sincere believers who pray, and someone who has trained and specialized in prayer for forty years."
Make Prayer Beautiful is a Christian ministry. We hold the historic faith summarized in the Apostles' Creed.
We believe prayer matters because God is real, Jesus is risen, and the Holy Spirit is present and active. Everything else flows from that.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.
The convictions that shape how we teach, pray, and serve.
Even the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray. We all need instruction, demonstration, and time. No one starts as an expert.
Prayer is not a one-way broadcast. It is full relationship โ conversation, interaction, God and man engaging with one another in real time.
From the Father's eyes, every believer is his favorite โ a 10 from the beginning. Prayer is not performance. It comes from the heart.
The workplace is not separate from the spiritual life. We pray for businesses, families, and communities because God cares about all of it.
The great prayer warriors throughout history all arrived at the same practice: praying the Word with fervency and power. We follow that path.
The Host has thought everything through. We are invited guests โ not guilty supplicants. Prayer is meant to be joyful, alive, and expectant.
